The Story Behind Canadian Treasured Turnings

Welcome to Canadian Treasured Turnings, where every piece of wood tells a story.

My name is Keith Robinson, and I’m the artist behind the lathe. After retiring from a 40-year career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, I discovered a new passion—woodturning. What began as a hobby quickly became a lifelong craft, combining my love of working with my hands, an appreciation for natural materials, and the joy of creating something truly meaningful.

Crafted with Purpose

Each piece I create is handcrafted from locally-sourced, sustainable Canadian hardwoods, including black walnut, maple, oak, cherry, sycamore, and mulberry. I personally harvest and process the wood—from log to art—ensuring a deep connection to the materials I use.

No two pieces are ever the same. Every grain, knot, and variation adds to the uniqueness of the final form—whether it’s a bowl, urn, vase, or decorative sculpture.

Rooted in Community & Craftsmanship

Though largely self-taught, I’ve honed my skills through years of practice and by learning from experienced turners through Woodturning Guilds. I proudly served as President of the Golden Horseshoe Woodturners Guild for six years, where I helped expand educational programs, led demonstrations, and mentored emerging turners in both technique and safety.

Sharing knowledge is one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey. I continue to offer workshops, participate in regional shows, and mentor fellow turners as part of the vibrant Canadian woodworking community.

Turning Wood into Legacy

My work is guided by craftsmanship, creativity, and care. Whether functional or purely artistic, every piece is made to last—finished with Tung Oil and buffed to a rich, warm sheen. Some are simple and elegant, while others are more complex, incorporating texture, embellishments, or mixed wood inlays.

From gallery-worthy art to everyday heirlooms, I pour pride and passion into everything I make.

Thank you for visiting and supporting Canadian handmade craftsmanship.
